Ohio hospitals will be
designated “Ohio Quit Sites” after completing
the following:

Hospital staff attends
the entire Get in Line with the Tobacco
Treatment Clinical Practice Guidelines
training and completes the training
evaluation tools.

The hospital identifies
an “Ohio Quit Site” contact person who is
willing to oversee the letter of agreement,
help inform hospital staff about the
referral process, and assist with evaluating
success of the Quit Site.

The hospital signs a
letter of agreement
that indicates its
intent to become an “Ohio Quit Site” with
the intention of making systemic changes to
integrate tobacco control into daily
protocols. Hospitals will commit to
implementing the main components of the
Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence
Clinical Practice Guideline and make and
track the number of its fax referrals to
Ohio Tobacco Quit Line.
The main components of the Treating
Tobacco Use and Dependence Clinical
Practice Guideline are often referred to as
3As & R and consist of identifying tobacco
users, having clinicians provide a brief
intervention advising of the benefits of not
using tobacco and referring those ready to
quit to cessation services.

every patient about tobacco use
Advise tobacco users to quit
Assess readiness to quit
Refer those
ready to quit in the next 30 days to the
Ohio Tobacco Quit Line or another
appropriate community resource

Hospitals describe in
their letter of agreement how they will
utilize a $1,000 Quit Site incentive to
implement the 3 As & R (i.e. for staff
training, patient materials, etc.)*
*Hospitals
that complete numbers 1 through 4 by June 23
will be eligible for $1,000 to assist in
becoming an Ohio Quit Site. |
