Foundation for Healthy Communities Welcomes New Board Members 

COLUMBUS—The Foundation for Healthy Communities, a charitable arm of the Ohio Hospital Association, welcomes two new members to its board of directors.  These new members will serve the foundation in its mission to support hospital and community projects that prevent health risks, injury and illness and promote healthy lifestyles.

At its Jan. 21 meeting, the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) Board of Trustees elected the following new members to three-year terms on the foundation board:

  • Kirk A. Hummer, chief operating officer, Mount Carmel St. Ann’s, Westerville

  • Lauren Rock, chief administrative officer, Euclid Hospital

Other current foundation board officers include:

  • Chair: Larry Unroe, president, Marietta Memorial Hospital

  • Vice Chair: Michael J. Maiberger, FACHE, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy

  • Secretary/Treasurer: Jan Ruma, vice president, Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio, Toledo

  • Immediate Past President: Philip Hearing, former president and CEO, Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge

The foundation extends its appreciation to retiring board members, Nancy Dix, community representative, Newark, and Patsy Matheny, director of community health improvement for VHA, Inc., Columbus.

The Foundation for Healthy Communities was created and endowed by Ohio hospitals in 1994 to promote creative collaborations for better health.  To date, the foundation has funded more than 100 projects, providing over $1 million for community health needs assessments, disease and violence prevention, infant and end-of-life care and other health improvement programs.  For more information, visit the foundation’s Web site at www.ohanet.org/healthycommunites/
