Foundation Director Hired

COLUMBUS – The Foundation for Healthy Communities, a statewide hospital-backed initiative, has named a veteran communicator and corporate philanthropy executive as its first full-time director.

Lynne Ayres of Hilliard, Ohio, comes to the Foundation from Columbia Gas of Ohio, where she had been corporate outreach and philanthropy coordinator. During her 27-year career with Columbia, Ayres also handled responsibilities in customer services, consumer affairs, speakers’ services and public relations.

Ayres’ leadership has also been demonstrated through her community involvement on the board of trustees for the Ohio Grantmakers Forum and the Columbus Corporate Volunteer Council, as board president of the Ohio Energy Project, and as the 1999 Volunteer of the Year of the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges. Ayres is a graduate of Muskingum College and has an MBA from Franklin University.

The Foundation for Healthy Communities was created in 1994 and endowed by Ohio hospitals to promote creative collaborations for better health. The Foundation has awarded more than $650,000 to 66 projects that have provided community health assessments, smoking cessation and prevention, training for positive parenting, child abuse and neglect prevention, mobile and community health clinics and child immunizations.

The Foundation’s spring grant cycle carries special emphasis on projects to improve the health of the elderly and improve care at the end of life. Complete grant information is available at www.ohanet.org/healthycommunities/

The Foundation is sponsored by the Ohio Hospital Association, which represents 175 hospitals throughout Ohio. OHA’s mission is to provide leadership. OHA works with members in meeting the health care needs and improving health status of the communities they serve.
