Preventive Services
A new
"Team Up to Stay Healthy" brochure produced by the American Medical
Association, AARP and the CDC helps Medicare patients understand their
preventive service benefits. Brochures are available free of charge or
can be downloaded from the AMA website.
Community Prevention Saves Lives &
Money
A new
policy brief from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation looks at the
return on investment of prevention, based on four groundbreaking studies
released in recent years. The conclusion? Community prevention
initiatives save lives and money.
Hi-Tech Smoking Cessation Tools for
Adults, Teens
The National Cancer Institute has developed the
SmokeFree QuitGuide
application to help smokers prepare to quit smoking and support them
in the days and weeks after quitting.
In addition,
SmokefreeTXT is
a free text message cessation service aimed at teens that provides 24/7
encouragement, advice and tips to teens trying to quit smoking.

OHA is now accepting nominations for its Health Care Leadership

Ohio hospital for providing an exemplary program or service consistent
with the vision of the Foundation for Healthy Communities to advance
good health and advocate for wellness.

Ohio BWC Issuing Workplace
Wellness Grants
The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation announced that it will
make $4 million available over the next four years to help employers
create programs to curb obesity and chronic disease among their
employees. Look for applications to be available
this quarter.

Collaborate for Healthy Weight -
Call for Applications
The Health Resources and Services Administration and the
National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality have issued a
Call for Team Applications to participate in Phase Two of a
national quality improvement program. Teams should have a minimum of
four members and include primary care, public health and community
organizations. An
informational webinar is being offered to interested parties
on Jan. 11 (registration is
required). Applications are due Jan. 27.
CMS Looking for Innovative Ideas
The CMS Innovation Center has announced a $1 billion program
that will provide grants to implement new ideas to deliver better
health, improved care and lower costs to people enrolled in
Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP. Applications for the
Health Care Innovation Challenge are due
Jan. 27.
ODH Announces Healthy Worksite
Awards
Ten Ohio hospitals are recipients of the
2011 Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksite Awards given by the Ohio
Department of Health. All 34 recipients will be recognized at an
awards ceremony at the Health Action Council Columbus Kick-Off
Conference on Jan. 31 in Columbus.

The Ohio Department of Health, Office of Healthy Ohio will be
hosting a
Policy Training and Sustainability Workshop on
Jan. 31 in Columbus. Objectives
will include understanding the value of prevention and the
importance of policy and practice change to create healthier
communities.
Making
Healthy Choices the Easiest Choices
The 22nd Annual
Art and Science of Health Promotion Conference
will bring together leaders in health promotion, who represent some
of the largest and most successful workplace, clinical, educational
and community programs in the nation. The
core conference held
April
11-13
will feature a full program featuring three keynote addresses
and 48 concurrent sessions. Conference sessions will address how to
develop the most effective wellness programs and will include
presentations by leaders from Mayo Clinic, Truman Medical Centers,
Kaiser Permanente, and a special two-day Intensive Training Seminar
on Integrating Wellness into Hospital Systems.
